Because the French top division is sometimes used as a stepping stone to leagues like the Premier League and La Liga, All Time Ligue 1 Scorers list has less goals than other major European leagues.
But with six players on the list having scored more than 200 goals, Ligue 1 fans have clearly witnessed some of the best talent since the league’s inception.
Some of the biggest names in the world, who established their own legacies while competing in the league, now hold the all-time goal scoring records for Ligue 1.
Ligue 1 is sometimes seen as the underdog among Europe’s top five leagues, but that hasn’t prevented them from luring some of the finest goal scorers in the world.
The league’s all-time leading scorer, French icon Jean-Pierre Papin, is still standing as of June 2020, although during the following several seasons, he may face challenge.
Edinson Cavani was on track to pass Papin, but it appears that this summer he will leave Paris Saint-Germain and head back to Serie A. As the PSG star is well on his way to scoring 100 goals in Ligue 1, Kylian Mbappe is most likely to pose the biggest threat to Papin.
Mbappe’s ascent up the list would undoubtedly be halted by a transfer overseas, but it wouldn’t be unexpected to see him later in his career return to France to break the record.
