Kepa Arrizabalaga – £71.6m
The most Chelsea’s top 10 most Expensive Signings expensive goalkeeper in history, the Spanish stopper moved to Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018.
Alisson had been acquired by Liverpool for a then-record £67 million, but a few weeks later, the Blues splashed out £71.6 million for Kepa. But ever since his arrival, Kepa has appeared to be a shadow of his LaLiga self, consistently committing mistakes.
He was replaced by Willy Caballero, a 39-year-old veteran, last season; this season, Frank Lampard signed Edouard Mendy to take his position on a permanent basis. With the club even including technical director Petr Cech in their roster as a backup, it indicates that his Chelsea career is done.
Kepa’s poor play was compounded by his contentious refusal to be replaced late in the 2019 Carabao Cup final so he could remain in goal for the penalty shootout.
Maurizio Sarri, the then-Chelsea manager, went into the tunnel but Antonio Rudiger stopped him when he came back to avoid a conflict.

Kai Havertz – £70m
The German joined for “only” £70 million in the end as Chelsea’s top 10 most Expensive Signings, after being linked with a £90 million transfer at various stages over the summer.
He is now just £1.6 million away from breaking Chelsea’s all-time signing record. After his much awaited transfer from the Bundesliga, Havertz has had a hit-or-miss start to life at Stamford Bridge.
But there is no denying that the potential is there, and when Lampard eventually starts using him in his preferred No. 10 spot for a number of games, he might be a spectacular acquisition.
Alvaro Morata – £65m
Romelu Lukaku and Morata were both mentioned in connection with Chelesa’s frantic search for a new striker in July 2017. Morata was Chelsea’s “cheaper” choice at £65 million, with £59 million of that amount paid up front, whereas Lukaku cost Manchester United £75 million.
Despite being a standout at Juventus and Real Madrid, the Spaniard scored just 16 goals in 47 Premier League outings. Then, Morata was transferred to Atletico Madrid on an 18-month loan, and his agreement turned permanent in the summer of 2020.
Following the acquisition of Luis Suarez by Los Rojiblancos, he was promptly loaned back to Juventus. Morata, who played one season as a young player for Getafe, reportedly stated he intends to retire there.
Christian Pulisic – £58m

When healthy, Pulisic has been quite successful, scoring nine goals in just 28 appearances while playing on the wing, including a hat-trick against Burnley the previous year. The future is undoubtedly bright for Pulisic, who, if he can maintain his fitness for an extended length of time, will show to be a bargain for £58 million.
Pulisic may become part of a front-four with Werner, Havertz, and Hakim Ziyech that might push the Blues back up the standings.
Jorginho – £57.4m
Jorginho has made 75 Premier League appearances since moving from Napoli a little more than two years ago as Chelsea’s top 10 most Expensive Signings. The Italian, who can occasionally be a contentious character among supporters, has made an impression while playing for Stamford Bridge.
During his time, Maurizio Sarri even chose Jorginho over superstar N’Golo Kante for a sold defensive midfield position. However, Lampard frequently starts a two-man defensive midfield tandem, and the two work well together.
Ben Chilwell – £50m

After failing tremendously in London, Torres currently appears on every imaginable list of “worst-ever moves,” despite the fact that he did assist the team in winning the Champions League in 2012.
After receiving loans from AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, the Spanish star managed just 20 goals in 110 Premier League outings before being transferred to the latter in 2016.
After two years with Sagan Tosu of Japan, Torres announced his retirement in 2019.
Timo Werner – £48m
Since the heyday of Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in their primes, CHELSEA has been in desperate need of a great striker. Tammy Abraham performed admirably last season, but Lampard was concerned about the lack of depth.
Therefore, the Blues manager splashed out £48 million to sign German goal machine Werner from RB Leipzig in the summer.

Mateo Kovacic – £40m

In the previous two seasons, Bakayoko had been on loan at AC Milan and Monaco. In an effort to restart his career, he was sent away once more in 2020–21, this time to Napoli. But it looks that his Chelsea career is over.
