The T20 Blast, which is now known as the Vitality Blast due to sponsorship reasons, is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament for first-class counties in England and Wales. The competition was started in 2003 as the first professional Twenty20 league in the globe by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It is England and Wales’ premier Twenty20 tournament.
The competition has gone under several titles as a result of corporate sponsorship. From 2003 to 2009, it was known as the Twenty20 Cup, from 2010 to 2013 as the Friends Provident and Friends Life t20, and from 2014 to 2017 as the Natwest t20 Blast. Since 2018, Vitality, an insurance provider, has sponsored the competition, which is referred to as the Vitality Blast.

On June 13, 2003, the Twenty20 Cup’s inaugural matches were held. The Surrey Lions won the first Twenty20 Cup Final by defeating the Warwickshire Bears by nine wickets, making the first Twenty20 season in England a success.
The inaugural Twenty20 Cup match to be played at Lord’s on July 15, 2004, drew a crowd of 26,500, the most for any county cricket match other than a one-day final since 1953. Middlesex was playing Surrey. In the seven years of the competition, six different champions were crowned.
The ECB made the decision to introduce a wider competition for the T20 format of the game by the end of 2009 English T20 Blast 2022 Today Match.
