The fifth CECAFA U-17 Championship, to be held by CECAFA, will take place in 2022. (Council of East and Central Africa Football Association). It will be held in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, from September 30 to October 19, 2022.
Matokeo Tanzania U17 vs South Sudan U17 Results 12 Oct 2022 The two tournament winners represented CECAFA in the CAF U-17 continental championship, making this contest also a CECAFA qualifying event for the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
Two groups of five teams each were formed originally from the 10 teams. Uganda, Djibouti, Sudan, Burundi, and Rwanda were placed in Group B, while Ethiopia, Tanzania, Somalia, South Sudan, and Eritrea were placed in Group A. Eritrea and Rwanda withdrew from the competition on September 26, leaving both groups with just four teams.

After several of its players failed the MRI exam on October 1st, Djibouti and Sudan were eliminated from the competition, leaving Group B with just two teams. Each group’s champion and runner-up proceeded to the semi-finals.

If a match is tied at the end of the regular playing time in the knockout rounds, extra time is played (two periods of 15 minutes each), and if required, a penalty shootout is used to decide the victors. The two finalists of the tournament qualified for the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
