The season of South Africa’s second-tier professional soccer, the National First Division, which runs from September 2022 to May 2023, is known as the 2022–23 National First Division (also known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons).
GladAfrica, the competition’s previous sponsors, backed out after three years of their five-year agreement. Patrice Motsepe took their place, and the event was renamed the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
