MTV Africa Music Awards MAMA 2022, The return of the premier awards ceremony for the continent in 2022 was confirmed by MTV Africa and MTV Base. On December 20th, 2022, the iconic MTV Base event, the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), which honors the pinnacle of African culture, music, and innovation, will take place in a newly envisioned virtual format in collaboration with Uganda, The Pearl of Africa.

MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and MTV will both air the MTV Africa Music Awards 2022. (DStv Channel 130). The repeat program will also be shown on BET Africa, BET International, and MTV stations all over the world as an hour-long MTV World Stage feature with a MAMA theme on MTV Africa Music Awards MAMA 2022.
Twenty award categories, including Best Male, Best Female, Best Song, and Best Collaboration, will be presented during the event to honor African talent. The Best Lusophone and Best Francophone categories will also honor the contributions of musicians from Portuguese- and French-speaking Africa.

The MAMA Generation Change Award, Best Fan Base, Alone Together Best Lock-down Performance, and Personality of the Year are additional brand-new categories. These new categories aim to highlight MTV Base’s dedication to assisting African youth.
The announcement was made today via a virtual press conference that was broadcast from Johannesburg and Kampala and hosted by Monde Twala and Craig Paterson, Senior Vice Presidents and General Managers of ViacomCBS Networks Africa (VCNA), State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda of the Ugandan Ministry of Tourism, and CEO Lilly Ajarova of the Ugandan Tourism Board MTV Africa Music Awards MAMA 2022.
The acclaimed Ugandan musician Bebe Cool, the outstanding South African rapper Nasty C, and the experienced Ugandan singer Sheebah Karungi participated in the lively Q&A session MTV Africa Music Awards MAMA 2022.
