The Orlando Pirates Football Club (also known as “The Buccaneers”) is a South African professional football club headquartered in the Houghton neighborhood of Johannesburg that competes in the DSTV Premier Soccer League, South Africa’s top-tier football league. The team’s home games are held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
The club was created in 1937 and was situated in Orlando, Soweto at the time. They were dubbed “amapirate,” which translates to “Pirates” in IsiZulu, when a group of youngsters who had formed an amateur football team at Orlando Boys Club split off and began congregating at the home of one of the Orlando Boys Club employees.

Orlando Pirates Squad 2022/23 Season
In finalizing preparations for the new season, Orlando Pirates seem to have confirmed their latest and possibly last squad ahead of their 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign opener next weekend. Adding five of their newest players—Nkosinathi Sibisi, Tapelo Xoki, Evidence Makgopa, Bienvenu Eva Nga and Miguel Timm—to newly-appointed coach José Riveiro’s roster this week, the Bucs are all set to play Swallows FC on August 6th at Orlando Stadium.
