Following a video-conferenced executive committee meeting on September 10, 2020, CAF rescheduled the competition from 10 July to 1 August 2022 to January 2023, citing the postponement of the 2020 African Nations Championship to 2021 and the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa as well as the already-scheduled 2022 FIFA World Cup in November–December 2022.
The qualification process was presented at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on May 26, 2022, and is expected to take place between July 22 and September 2, 2022. In addition, the called players are required to report to the camp on Sunday March 20 until Match 29 when the camp is dissolved.
The team will play two friendly international matches here in Tanzania at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. It will be like a small tournament that will involve teams from Central African countries and Sudan.
