Simba Sports Club History
Simba Sports Club is a Tanzanian football club headquartered in Kariakoo, Dar es Salaam. Simba Sc, formed in 1936, was renamed Queens in honor of Her Majesty, the Queen of England, after breaking away from another Tanzania Giant, Dar Young Africans. The club’s name changed multiple times, from Queens to Eagles to Sunderland. They were nicknamed Simba in 1971. (Swahili for “Lion”).
The Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is where Simba plays its home games. With 1.9 million followers and an 89% increase from the previous year, Simba was the fastest growing Instagram account among football teams in 2022.
The club has built a reputation for being an innovative team, and their Instagram account is no exception. Simba Sports Club Trophies
Simba SC has a long history of success, has won the Tanzanian Premier League 21 times, and has produced many players who have gone on to represent Tanzania at international level. Simba Sc has also five domestic cups, and has competed in the CAF Champions League on many occasions. They are also one of East Africa’s largest clubs, having won the CECAFA Club Championship six times.
They won their first title in 1965 as Sunderland, before going on to win again the following year. Simba Sports club first league title since name change comes in 1973 after Young Africans impressive 5 times back to back league win from 1968 to 1972.
In the 1970s, they were one of the most successful clubs in Tanzania. In 1976 and 1980, they won four consecutive league titles. Their most recent Tanzania premier league registered in the 2020/2021 when when finish on top of league with 83 points.
