He would surpass legendary goal scorer Gabriel Batistuta in the scoring statistics with four more league goals, giving him 185. He scored just four goals in 2017 as Samp beat his local rival Genoa to achieve Serie A safety.

Quagliarella, who led Serie A in goal scoring in the 2018–19 campaign with 26 goals, has played his whole career in Italy for teams like Juventus, Udinese, and Napoli.

He won three Serie A championships with Juventus from 2010 to 2014. After leaving for city rivals Torino, he returned to Sampdoria in 2016 after a brief absence.
