The Confédération Africaine de Football’s (CAF) Provide the Winner of the AFCON since 1957, member countries compete in the famous African Cup of Nations (AFCON) (CAF). Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia, the three founder nations, competed in the first game in 1957.

In the AFCON 2021 final, Senegal defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties to win their first championship in history.

With seven victories, Egypt, the first-place finisher, is the most successful team in AFCON history. After winning three straight Cup of Nations competitions (in 2006, 2008, and 2010), Egypt made history by becoming the first nation to ever claim a hat-trick of championships.

The premier international men’s football competition on the African continent is the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). It began in Winner of the AFCON since 1957.

AFCON has grown from a tiny tournament with only three teams in the first edition to the largest football event in Africa, with 24 nations in the main draw and 52 in the qualifying rounds.

The Africa Cup of Nations has been contested 33 times and has been won by 14 different nations to date. It is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the continent’s football governing organization.

Nigeria has three AFCON victories under its belt: in 1980, 1994, and 2013. In 1992 and 2015, Ivory Coast, one of the most well-known African footballing nations, won after defeating Ghana 9-8 in a penalty shootout.

In the most recent competition, Algeria defeated Senegal 1-0 to break their 29-year trophy drought. The Desert Warriors successfully hosted and won the AFCON in 1990. Aside from their victory in 1990, Algeria’s greatest performance up until their victory in 2019 was only a fourth-place finish in 2010.

With five championships under their belt and three further podium places, Cameroon is the second-most successful team in the AFCON.

Senegal defeated Egypt in the championship game on penalties to win the AFCON 2021 (held in 2022). Senegal has never won the continental competition before.
