York United FC Players and Fixtured, Ontario-based York United Football Club, formerly York9 FC, is a professional soccer team in Canada. The team plays its home games at York University’s York Lions Stadium and participates in the Canadian Premier League.
Jimmy Brennan, a former Canadian international, resigned from his position as executive director of Aurora FC in December 2017 and declared his plan to join the Canadian Premier League York United FC Players and Fixtured.
Brennan’s appointment as York Sports & Entertainment’s executive vice-president in January was made public in March 2018. The next day, it came to light that Preben Ganzhorn, the company’s president, had listed himself as president of York9 FC, an unidentified organization that was thought to be a Canadian Premier League team.
The COVID-19 epidemic caused York9’s second season in the Canadian Premier League to start later than planned, in April 2020. The first player from the CPL to be sold to a European top division was teenage midfielder Emilio Estevez, who the club sold to Dutch Eredivisie team ADO Den Haag during the hiatus.
The team changed its name to York United FC on December 11, 2020, along with a new crest and color design. The new logo also symbolizes the City of Toronto, whereas the former club name just targeted York Region.
In their inaugural season in the Canadian Premier League in 2021, York United FC finished fourth. After a 3-1 defeat, they were eliminated from the playoffs on York United FC Players and Fixtured.
